DA-14, a very large asteroid, is scheduled to come very very close to the Earth today, February 15, 2013. According to NASA, it will be at it closest at 2:25pm EST. While it will not hit us here, it will pass close enough to be between us and some of our communications satellites.
While we are lucky and it will not hit us, that doesn’t mean that you can’t use it as an excuse and stay home anyway. Tell the boss the world might end and your going to finish some video games!

Apparently we have our youngest black hole in the milky way galaxy. NASA has noticed from the Chandra X-ray observatory what is probably the youngest black hole. Scientists will have a very rare opportunity to study the supernova and the black hole that it is creating.
Also worth noting the process by which something is torn apart is called “Spaghettification”. Who knew that such an awful death would have such a cool name!
Take a look at W49B, and read more about it in Science 2.0!
